Scouts visit St Athan airbase for guided tour of the Police & Coastguard helicopters
Our visit to the National Police Air Service and Coastguard airbases was incredibly inspiring for all the Scouts. The day was packed from start to finish.
We discussed the daily operation of the service, what they deal with and how they benefit from teams on the ground. The Scouts had the opportunity to watch high speed pursuits with thermal detectors, use night vision goggles, explore the inside of the helicopter, learn about the mechanics of the aircraft and see the operations room. It gave us all an insight in to what the job involves.
We we even got lucky and were able to see the helicopters take off and land!
Overall a fab day for everyone
Particular thanks must go to the staff at the base for making this such a memorable day out for the Scouts and also a big thank you to Niamh for getting this activity off the ground – pun intended!
